Since the earliest modern album covers of the 1950s, great photo portraiture has been utilized by performers to represent their music. They’re often strikingly beautiful, well-lit studio shots by notable photographers like Herb Ritts, Reid Miles, Annie Leibowitz, and Lindsey Best.

Great portrait photos lend the viewer a glimpse in to the personality of the artist, the mood they want to convey, and even a hint a what music is contained within.
