Musicians and artists have had a long history of utilizing “shock value” to call attention to an album, a topic, or to challenge the viewer to react. A good example at left is “Diamond Dogs,” by David Bowie, 1974.
Using shock value on album covers is often sexual, distorted, fascinating, disturbing and always provocative. And when themes of horror, sex, religion and crime are included, some albums can be downright offensive to some viewers.
